The University of Manitoba Health Services has received approval from the Manitoba Drug and Poisons Board for a new prescription for the generic Viagra®.
Roughly five months into the approval process the new drug will be available to patients in Manitoba, and for a period of time the drug will only be available in provincial provinces.
“We are pleased with the progress we have made,” said Dr. Paul G. Gammons, professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Manitoba. “We are very pleased with the results of the first round of clinical trials that have been completed in the province.”
The prescription will be provided to the province’s health system at no cost to patients, including any medication they are prescribed for and all the benefits associated with the prescription. The drug will only be available in provincial provinces.
The price of the drug is $1.5 per tablet, with a maximum daily dosage of $4,200.
The medication will be marketed to the public in Manitoba and will be available in three or four provinces in the province.
“The drug is very effective in providing patients with a safe, affordable and safe alternative to the prescription drug they are currently taking,” Dr. Gammons said.
